Mirambika Birthday 2012
Mirambika’s birthday falls on the 15th of July of every year. This year, mirambika’s birthday fell on a Sunday (15 July 2012). Two major events were organized to commemorate this event along with projects that children took up on mirambika and mirambika’s flower, Cheerful Endeavour. One event was an alumni gathering on the 15th of July 2012 itself and the other was a celebration in mirambika with current children, diyas and parents of mirambika on the 20th of July, a Friday.

The alumni gathering was scheduled at 10.30am on Sunday. It was an informal occasion for past and present students and diyas of mirambika to mingle and spend the time together as well as to consider areas in which interested alumnus and mirambika could collaborate. From 10.30am onwards, the alumni group started streaming in till we had a gathering of 30-odd alumni and another 35-odd current didis and bhaiyas. A beautiful creation by diyas welcomed everyone in the front lobby – a rangoli made out of shells and seeds.

An important part of the morning activity, besides the hugs and happy smiles and the quiet sharing of what one was up to in life, was the filling in of a survey form which sought the response of ex-students on what mirambika meant to them and what more mirambika could do to reach her high aim.

At 11.15am, we all proceeded up to the meditation hall and spent many poignant minutes united in chanting age-old mantras invoking the presence of the Divine. There was a palpable sense of deep peace in the atmosphere. Then groups of alumnus treated us with sweet songs that marked an era in their lives. These moments would have filled any diya with a deep sense of gratitude to be present anywhere near these young flowering souls. Then, after these rich moments, we had some snacks in the dining hall and the family feasted together once again. Here was a golden hour relived and brought the gathering on this special occasion of mirambika’s birthday to a sweet conclusion.jpg5
